PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION:
This position resides in the Corporate Engineering global Maintenance Excellence group and is focused on driving improvements in site maintenance effectiveness, cost efficiency and maintenance related compliance (GMP, EHS, etc.) across all Abbott divisions.
An engineering professional who:
As a senior member of the maintenance excellence team, assesses maintenance practices of site maintenance organizations, identifying operational gaps and developing plans to remediate the gaps. Works with sites to implement improvements within a GMP and/or quality environment.
Applies project management methodologies, engineering skills and maintenance knowledge to complete projects (non-capital) from concept through project completion.
Develops maintenance best practices
Prepares and delivers training material
Prepares and delivers program updates to management
Works effectively with little guidance from supervision
As part of the global maintenance excellence team this position:
Identifies, develops and implements maintenance best practices to improve maintenance effectiveness, efficiency and compliance.
Identifies and implements cost savings and efficiency improvement projects focused on manufacturing plant maintenance, as well as a variety of types of facilities, utilities and equipment.
Prepares professional written communication. Conveys information effectively through formal and informal documents with team members and other personnel, both internal and external to Abbott, using appropriate communication protocols. Exhibits ability to apply concepts of careful communication.
Develops professional presentations and helps to communicate a compelling business case for MEx program initiatives.
Develops, plans, coordinates and directs multiple MEx projects across multiple sites simultaneously.
Gathers and analyzes maintenance data to provide data based recommendations to management and internal customers.
Leads development of Project Charters and appropriately documents the initial requirements that satisfy the stakeholder’s needs and expectations. Establishes project objectives and criteria for evaluating project results and progress of the project team.
Uses established PM tools and techniques to direct and manage project execution, track cost savings, provide management updates and achieve the defined project and organizational objectives.
Closes the project by finalizing all activities, verifying cost savings/efficiency and leading a close-out meeting with the customer.
Identifies ways to increase customer satisfaction. Establishes relationships and effective communication channels with customers; documents agreements and commitments.
Participates on internal, cross-divisional teams to develop and align procedures and standards.
This position will be responsible for directing others and is required to mentor others by sharing knowledge and expertise and providing feedback and guidance both within the immediate organizational areas and across multiple work groups, functions and divisions.
Education and Experience
A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, science, or closely related discipline with 5+ years of engineering, maintenance and/or operational experience.
Manufacturing plant experience in a GMP and/or quality regulated environment.
Experience presenting in front of large groups and to senior leadership.
Proficient in PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Maximo or similar CMMS (computerized maintenance management system).
Experience with common maintenance tools and practices such as maintenance planning and scheduling, COGNOS, stockroom and spare parts management, predictive maintenance and reliability.
Experience managing people and budgets is a plus.
Travel of up to 25% is required.
