This position provides leadership, technical knowledge and supervisory skills to ensure optimum daily operation, maintenance, and repair of the plant's mechanical, facility, and utility infrastructure.


This position uses leadership, innovative thinking skills, and mechanical and electrical aptitude in an effort to maintain and improve plant machinery reliability and performance. In doing so, product quality and capacities will be maintained or improved while costs are controlled. This employee will support all personnel and food safety programs, company policies and procedures, and have a personal value system that fosters a work environment that is based on trust, human dignity, and honesty.


  • Ability to effectively support production by leading and managing an hourly work force of up to ten (10) maintenance mechanics in a non-union environment. Must lead by example.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all plant departments to include operations, sanitation, administrative, and plant leadership.
  • Must possess a strong mechanical aptitude that will enable the plant to operate an effective predictive, preventive, routine, and emergency equipment repair program.
  • Ability to support operations and sanitation to ensure on-time start-ups, maximum mechanical and operational up-time, and consistent product quality and capacity.
  • Must manage departmental budget and expenses; able to requisition parts on an as-needed basis. Generate spending reports as required.
  • Must manage records maintained within the Ross ERP computerize maintenance management program. Able to generate reports as tasked.
  • Must be able to perform short and long term planning to include at the minimum daily and weekly plans.
  • Must support the plant's parts inventory by ensuring 100% parts check-out, reviewing the inventory for discrepancies or obsolete items, and recommending new parts.
  • As tasked, must be able to coordinate project work to include on-time completion, financial responsibility, contractor scheduling, and finished product quality.
  • Must support the company personnel and food safety programs, policies and procedures, and contract employee programs. Ensures assigned mechanical team likewise supports and complies with all company policies and procedures.


  • Overall departmental and plant efficiency.
  • Effective use of mechanical personnel; good time management.
  • Quarterly progress as measured using the established corporate CMMS criteria.
  • Maintenance key performance indicators (KPI) as tracked on a weekly or monthly basis. Compliance with annual Grote assessment plan.
  • Effective use of planning and communication tools
  • Be fiscally responsible in department, facility and company as a whole.
  • Allow for and be a participant of ongoing innovations and process improvements.
  • Lead by example, morally and ethically.
  • Utilize leadership and teambuilding skills for employee growth and retention.


Directly supervise up to ten (10) employees. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the corporate policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include:

  • Interviewing and hiring
  • Employee training
  • Planning, assigning, and directing work
  • Appraising performance
  • Rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


  • Engineering or engineering technology degree from four-year college or university that has been accredited by the Department of Education, preferred.
  • Or, High school diploma plus three (3) years of maintenance experience in the food or related industry. Must possess strong leadership ability and demonstrate electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical technical competencies.
  • Ability to perform complex computer commands and routines using the MS Office Suite to include MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS PowerPoint. Ability to learn as tasked AutoCAD LT.
  • Ability to effectively operate, maintain, and use the Ross computerized maintenance management system (MM).
