GENERAL JOB SUMMARY

Senior Plant leadership position accountable for the reliability, performance and maintenance of all equipment, facilities, and grounds. Leads and Directs supporting staff on short and long range plans to enable the growth of company by continually seeking opportunities to improve Safety, Quality and Service while reducing operational costs via efficient maintenance procedures, equipment and planning. Reports directly to Plant Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Directs all Maintenance Department activities, designs new equipment, modifies existing designs, and continually reviews performance and tactics.
  • Resolves problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies and/or concepts.
  • Confers with operations, engineering, R&D, and quality to determine equipment feasibility, cost effectiveness and customer demand for new and existing products.
  • Forecasts operating costs of department and leads preparation of budget requests.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
  • Responsible for the implementation and auditing of safety policies, practices and procedures.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement in plant and equipment reliability. Works with the operations and engineering groups to develop tactics to this end.
  • Communicates maintenance problems with production and other operation's groups; to minimize downtime.
  • Responsible for the systematic enhancement of maintenance technical skills.
  • Provides support and guidance for Autonomous-Maintenance. Provides instruction to operators on cleaning, lubrication, safety, and contamination countermeasures. Supports Kaizen activities.
  • Accountable for ensuring safe reliable operation of plant systems (electrical, hydraulic, boilers, and Ammonia System), etc., in accordance with state and federal regulatory requirements such as PSM, OSHA, and others.
  • Downtime Countermeasures - Track breakdowns, analyze root cause, applying countermeasures. The goal is to increase mean time between failures (MTBF) and reduce mean time to repair (MTTR).
  • Preventive Maintenance Program - Identify and number all equipment, establish standards for cleaning, lubrication, and inspection. Develop schedule of PM activities and track conformance to schedule - this includes lubrication program activities.
  • Spare Parts Management - Establish inventory standards and reorder points for parts needed on planned basis. Apply 5-S principles to storage area.
  • Maintenance Cost Analysis - Understand where cost is incurred for parts, indirect supplies, oils & lubricants, staffing, and outside contractors. Organize systematic actions to reduce costs - goal is to reduce long term total cost - not to be sacrificed for short term cost improvement.
  • Maintenance Efficiency Improvement - Track maintenance activities by category: planned (time-based, condition-based, predictive), and unplanned (breakdown). Goal is to increase percentage of maintenance hours on planned vs. unplanned, and lower overall total for both.
  • Management of contract services required to maintain, repair of existing plant and or installation of new systems

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Accountable for all aspects of performance associated with the maintenance staff and supervisory group: planning, quality and quantity of work, costs, methods, maintenance, discipline, transfers, promotions, hiring, performance appraisals, and terminations.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Typically has a BS/BA degree in a related area and five to ten years of related management experience and or equivalent education and experience.
